Why Health Cannot Wait
Last mile delivery of healthcare is always challenging in a country as vast and diverse as India. The uneven distribution of healthcare infrastructure, as well as medical professionals, makes quality healthcare services inaccessible to a large population living in rural areas. Urban slum dwellers, on the other hand, suffer from lack of awareness, adverse living conditions and the unwillingness to lose a day’s wage in order to reach the nearest medical facility. With an aim to strengthen the country’s existing healthcare system and reduce out-of-pocket expenses on health, We are going to Start a Campaign ‘Health Cannot Wait’ initiative is taking quality healthcare services to the doorstep of vulnerable communities, with focus on women and children. Awareness activities like school health camps and street plays are also conducted to encourage children and community to adopt a health seeking behaviour. About Our NGO
I Mohd Asif, started BHARTIYA SHIKSHA EVAM JAN KALYAN SANSTHAN in the year 2018 with an aim of catering to the nutrition, health and educational needs of underprivileged children in the honor of my late sister, who tragically lost her life in a road accident. I started the NGO with the help of my family and friends to fulfill my dream of seeing every poor child healthy and educated to fulfill dream of my beloved sister. We have been running a campaign for the underprivileged children in rural/ slum areas of Lucknow since the inception with the goal of providing quality education to more and more children and enhancing their intellectual awareness.
About the cause
Significant proportions of people in cities like Lucknow come from neighbouring small cities and villages in search of livelihood. These less advantageous families fall below the Poverty line and live in streets and slum areas with limited resources. It is very difficult for them to send their children to school and afford required study material or stationary.
We want to be the guiding light for such children who have the passion to learn and grow but no medium so that they will not be forced into child labor, early marriage, and subjected to violence and abuse.
Our Objective
BHARTIYA SHIKSHA AVAM JAN KALYAN SANSTHAN in its another initiative has started an educational drive and started a pre-school where these slum children from age 3 to 12 are provided holistic developmental opportunities along with nutritional food. We intend to work on social and emotional development of these underprivileged children who come from Labourer's Family, Housemaid, Drivers and other street children, who are under difficult circumstances.
The aim of this program is not only to support their education, but also offering them a safe and nurturing environment which shields them from negative influences and bad habits that are prevalent in slum areas, empowering them to make better choices and resist engaging in activities that may hinder their growth and development. We also ensure that these children receive nutritious meals contributing to their overall well-being and physical development, enabling them to concentrate better in school and enhance their learning potential.
We also educate these children about basic hygiene practices, such as handwashing, dental care, and personal cleanliness. This knowledge not only benefits the students directly but also extends its impact to their families, particularly working mothers.
We believe that even if few students are motivated and enrolled in school through our initiative, it would be a significant success, breaking the cycle of poverty and providing a brighter future for them and their families.
